Arizona Opera

Seasonally, Saturdays at 1:00 p.m.

Arizona Opera, now in its 45th Season, produces fully-staged operas, concerts, and collaborative programs throughout the state of Arizona each season.   Seasonally, a selection of Arizona Opera's presentations are distributed nationally via the WFMT Radio Network to public radio stations across the country.

We are among only a handful of companies in the United States that regularly performs in more than one city. Arizona Opera elevates the transformative power of storytelling through music—cultivating community and strengthening a state and people as adventurous and diverse as the place they call home.

On stage, Arizona Opera presents artists of both international stature and emerging talent, and each season balances debut artists and the return of favorite performers.

Arizona’s musical talent is showcased in its acclaimed orchestra and chorus. The Arizona Opera Orchestra, established in 2000, consists of members of symphony orchestras from Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson, as well as faculty from local universities, and the chorus is comprised of Phoenix and Tucson community members and students from local universities.

Riders of the Purple Sage received its world premiere at Arizona Opera in February & March 2017. “The first musical moments of Riders of the Purple Sage charge out of the gate: lofty horns, pounding drums and a big, sprawling score that has you expecting The Magnificent Seven. Craig Bohmler, who composed the music for Arizona Opera’s adaptation of the celebrated Zane Grey novel, says that’s the idea.”
