The 2016-2017 Season of the RPO Philharmonic series with Maestro Ward Stare
Classical 91.5’s Brenda Tremblay hosts the radio broadcast series of the 2016-17 season of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. The series airs Mondays at 8 p.m., beginning April 10, 2017.
Since ascending as the RPO’s Music Director, Ward Stare has signaled a taste for adventure, love for American composers, and respect for tradition. You’ll hear all of these qualities shine in this season, which opens with guest pianist Jon Nakamatsu performing Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. Later, conductor Laureate Christopher Seaman will lead the orchestra in Edward Elgar's Symphony No. 2, and there’s a generous helping of Beethoven, too. The season ends with a concert performance of Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohème. (The opera-loving Ward Stare will be conducting at the Metropolitan Opera this coming December 2017.)
Listen for works by American composers including Jennifer Higdon, Charles Ives, George Gershwin, John Williams, and John Adams; his intense "Dr. Atomic" Symphony will get its RPO premiere.
Hear the RPO Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. on 91.5 FM, 90.3 FM, and streaming at classical915.org.
