Jazz musicians, almost by definition, seek an active dialogue between the impulsive and the rational. For some, the terms of that negotiation become a central feature of their art.

David Chin serves as the Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Bach Festival, Malaysia Bach Festival, and the East Malaysia Bach Cantata Singers and Orchestra, as well as the Principal Conductor of the Association of Toronto Chinese Evangelical Church Musicians in Canada.  In this conversation with WXXI's Brenda Tremblay, he describes the blooming appreciation for J.S. Bach in Malaysia and the teachers that first introduced him to Bach's sacred masterworks.

Every year around the world, musicians gather and celebrate the music of Johann Sebastian Bach with performances, focusing on bringing his music to places that it is not normally heard. The project is called “Bach in the Subways."  This year, for Bach’s 332nd birthday, there are several performances in Rochester.
